Postcards from Alberta’s Early Natural Gas Industry
One of Alberta’s early natural gas discoveries was in the Medicine Hat area, when railroad workers drilling for water accidentally hit methane. These postcard images are from these early days. The “Old Glory” well was drilled in 1909 and initially produced 4,500 Mcf/d of gas, a similar flowrate to the modern wells that are drilled today.
